Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease or line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas until mostly smooth.
- Whisk in the melted butter, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and sour cream until glossy and well combined.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir gently just until no dry streaks remain.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan, smooth the top, and sprinkle with extra chocolate chips.
- Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
- Cool the loaf in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool before slicing.
Notes
Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness and moisture. Do not overmix the batter or the loaf may turn dense. Tent loosely with foil near the end of baking if the top browns too quickly. Nutrition is an estimate and will vary with optional nuts and extra chocolate chips.
